OpenWard – Software

What is OpenWard ?

Openward is a graphical Patient Status software application designed to help frontline staff manage patient status information at a ward or departmental level using an intuitive touch enabled interface that works seamlessly in existing clinical processes.

How do I use OpenWard to improve discharge management?

OpenWard provides a powerful and configurable visual management tool set that allows Wards and Trusts to replace traditional ward boards and in so doing:

  • • Reduce interruptions
  • • Save staff time looking for patient information
  • • Make the patient journey from admission to discharge run smoothly without delays
  • • Increase direct care time

Can OpenWard be used as a bed management system?

Yes.  The information gathered by OpenWard can be used to provide highly accurate patient and bed status information when deployed and used across a Trust.

Can OpenWard interface to the PAS?

Yes our software already has an integrated HL7 connector to enable the software to talk to other Hospital Systems such as the PAS.  For those Trusts who do not use HL7 we are able to provide bespoke interfaces to most Hospital systems.

What system architecture does OpenWard use?

We utilise open source products to support a browser based solution with a web server and backend database.

Can I customise (localisation) my ward status display, i.e. change and add columns?

Our product is designed around a powerful configuration engine which allows individual wards to support status information that is relevant to them.

Can I run reports in the system?

OpenWard comes with a set of basic reports as standard.

Can I view other wards that have had OpenWard installed?

Yes our software is designed to allow staff to view any wards information from anywhere in the hospital subject to security policies and permissions.

Can I access information on OpenWard away from the hospital?

Yes subject to your local ICT security policies.

How many people can access the system at the same time?

There is no restriction on the number of users and our licensing model is based on wards rather than users.

What are the system requirements?

This very much depends on the number of wards in use; we have customers who run our complete solution on a single PC and others who utilise virtual server environments.

How does OpenWard tackle issues around patient confidentiality?

OpenWard includes a configurable security module that allows Trusts to hide patient identifiable information, activate logins and passwords for status  updates if required.

How secure is the system

Our security module only allows authorised users to edit and view detailed information.

What software needs to go on the PC’s in order for OpenWard to work?

Individual PC's require no local software, a simple link is added to user profiles allowing them to access the system.

What happens to the patient record when I do a discharge?

In systems where we have not interfaced to your hospital PAS the data is kept locally in the OpenWard database, this allows us to pre-populate records for patients who are readmitted.
